EMBRACE II

Embracing SocioEconomic Development in Disadvantageous Areas through the Information and Knowledge Society

Greek TREK Consulting S.A., as the applicant of project EMBRACE II, participated to a tender of the EU Community initiative INTERREG IIIB CADSES (4th call), in November 2005. Beside the Greek leading partner, there are ten more project partners from different countries (Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania) among which Slovenia is represented by the Regional Development Centre of Koper. Project activities of EMBRACE II project, which is a continuation of a successfully concluded project of the same name, will be carried out by individual project partners from June 2006 until January 2008.

The project points at problems of small and medium-sized enterprises, which are located in the rural area and unfavourable, underdeveloped urban areas, which limits their access to relevant sources of information and knowledge (i.e. organizations, which are aimed to serve to small and medium-sized enterprises – Chamber of commerce and industry, associations of small and medium-sized enterprises, local/regional development agencies, etc.). Essential objective of the project is designing or updating and implementing sustainable spatial policies and specific activities by which the individual project partners will try to raise awareness of local, small and medium-sized enterprises. We will introduce to the latter strengths and usability, which are brought by the information and communication technologies, by way of various project activities (horizontal and vertical extension of Embrace network). In addition, the objective of the project is identifying and measuring effects of information and communication technologies on local, economical and social development – e.g. measuring services of small and medium-sized enterprises, increasing their competitiveness, their international/global identity, creating new jobs, improvement of living standard etc.
