Inter Bike II
Establishment of multimodal connections along Adriabike cycling route – the Inter Bike II project was approved at Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia Programme 2014-2020 call for low-carbon strategies. Five cross-border project partners will implement pilot actions of bike & bus and bike & boat transport on a few sections of the Adriabike cycling route in the next two and a half years. The Adriabike cycling route which connects Kranjska Gora to Ravenna was identified in the strategic Inter Bike project of the past programming period.
The Inter Bike II project promotes cycling as a form of sustainable mobility while running daily errands or discovering sights of the cross-border area. Regional Development Centre Koper is lead project partner. Other project partners include the Municipalities of Koper and Monfalcone, Development Agency ROD Ajdovščina and Local Action Group of Eastern Veneto VEGAL. The Inter Bike II will establish new pilot multimodal bike & bus services along the Adriabike cycling route which connects the Alps with the Adriatic sea. Pilot multimodal connections were introduced in 2014 in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. In 2018 the Municipalities of Koper and Monfalcone launched an experimental cross-border bike & bus service between Koper, Grado and Cormons with stops in Trieste and Monfalcone. The bus service connects Adriabike and Alpe Adria (Salzburg – Grado) cycling routes. The Municipality of Koper will also implement a pilot bike & bus service from the city to the border crossing in Škofije in 2019. Local Action Group of Eastern Veneto will introduce in 2019 two pilot bike & boat services between Bibione and Caorle; two popular holiday resorts in the Venetian Lagoon, and along the Lemene river. An investment will also be made by the Municipality of Koper who will build a new section of a cycling path leading to Adriabike in Hrvatini, near the border.
Moreover, the partnership intends to incentivise cross-border cooperation between local and regional governments’ spatial and traffic planning and promote sustainable mobility. A cross-border council will be set-up consisting of representatives of decision makers and stakeholders. Networking among tourist service providers will be promoted and improvement of services for cyclists. The partners have already started these activities in the first Inter Bike project. The Inter Bike II total budget amounts to 1 mio eur. It will be completed by March 2020.

European Mobility Week 2019
16 – 22 september 2019
The main principle of sustainable mobility is to meet the needs for mobility of all people, while reducing traffic and its harmful effects. By promoting friendly mobility and sustainable transport, the European Mobility Week has been aiming to improve public health and quality of life since 2002. The campaign offers the opportunity to explore the role of city streets and to experiment with practical solutions of urban challenges.
This year's campaign slogan is "WALK WITH US". Walking, in addition to traveling from one point to another, enables more physical activity, better health and less pollution. Walking short distances is the most efficient and highly competitive way of transport, which can also be replaced by environmentally friendly means of travel – cycling.
The campaign will also include two buses from RDC Koper projects: Kolobus from MEDCYCLETOUR project and Bicibus from Inter Bike II project.
In cooperation with the Municipality of Koper and other partners, RDC Koper will organize a round table entitled “PERSPECTIVES OF SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY IN SLOVENIAN ISTRIA”. The event, organized under SMILE (ADRION) project, will take place on September 20th and will showcase transport strategies and project solutions. The discussion will encourage stakeholders to actively seek ways for effective and better planning of the mobility segment for the needs of residents and tourist flows.
Join the European Mobility Week and get among the bright passengers, save money, breathe cleaner air, travel and feel good, and don't forget:
NO CAR HAS SUCH BEAUTIFUL FEET AS YOU!
