On 28 May 2026, the final conference of the TORRENT project – Common Practices for Risk Reduction in Torrent Watershed Management – was held in Tolmezzo at the Conference Hall of the Mountain Community of Carnia. The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme.
The event was attended by 36 representatives of institutions, research organisations, public administrations and other stakeholders active in the field of watercourse management and natural risk reduction.
Following the opening remarks, the project coordinator, Professor Federico Cazorzi from the University of Udine, presented the project’s objectives, activities and key achievements. Presentations then followed on the experiences gained in the Moscardo and Orteglas torrent basins in Italy and in the watercourses located in the Krvavec area and near the village of Osp in Slovenia, highlighting monitoring activities, analyses and practical experiences developed throughout the project.
Particular attention was devoted to the importance of technical communication and the dissemination of project results. The role of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in the planning and management of hydraulic and forest engineering measures was also presented.
The project partners also discussed opportunities for future cooperation. A significant moment of the conference was the presentation of the memorandum for future collaboration, through which the partners will confirm their commitment to continuing knowledge exchange and strengthening cross-border cooperation beyond the end of the project.
