Mobilitas project partners had their first meeting in Portorož – Portorose (Slovenia), on January 30 and 31, 2017. Project activities were reviewed and first tasks were defined.
The aim of Mobilitas project (MOBIlity for nearLy-zero CO2 in medITerranean tourist destinAtionS) is to decrease negative impact of tourism in the Mediterranean tourist destinations. The main challenge is how to persuade tourists to keep their cars at home and reach the destinations by train or bus. The main challenge for the second group of tourists arriving to the Mediterranean by aircrafts and cruise ships is to find a better integration between airplanes and ships with sustainable means at land. Ten project partners from seven maritime countries (ten regions) will elaborate different scenarios to facilitate policy makers preparation of sustainable tourism mobility policies. Different IT tools will be elaborated enabling local population and tourists to get information of availability of public transport, to monitor traffic flows and own carbon footprint.
Some partners will test use of electrical vehicles (e-scooters, e-bikes) and will install electrical charging stations. In the Coastal-Carst region some solutions will be developed following demands identified in SUMPs (APPs for public transport real-time tracking, displays on available parking lots in city centres etc).
Project partners started collecting statistical data about general characteristics of regions, tourism and transport that will represent basis for mobility scenarios elaboration for ten regions, taking part in the project.
