Kick-off meeting of the partners of the TORRENT project of the Interreg Italia-Slovenija Programme

On Wednesday, 22 May 2024, the kick-off meeting of the partners of the TORRENT project of the Interreg Italia-Slovenija Programme took place in Koper. A day later, on 23 May 2024, the participants visited some of the watercourses in Slovenian Istria and came across interesting and ‘beautiful’ built structures in the middle of the forest.

The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, especially in the context of current climate change, has made accurate and effective planning of torrent control works an essential tool for preventing geo-hydrological risks. This type of risk knows no administrative boundaries, which is why, in vulnerable territories such as Italy and Slovenia, the adoption of common strategies to improve the management of watercourses and to protect infrastructure, property and lives is of paramount importance. The TORRENT project aims to establish common and transnational guidelines for monitoring the condition and functionality of stream management facilities, assessing the long-term performance of facilities, prioritising maintenance interventions and improving river basin management strategies.
